A&E Developing New Psycho Prequel ‘Bates Motel’ Series

The cable network A&E ordered a new series from Carlton Curse of Lost and Kerry Ehrin of Friday Night Lights, that is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic suspense thriller Psycho.  The new series, Bates Motel will explore Norman Bate’s formative years in a contemporary setting.  The new show will look into the backstory that help create the cross-dressing serial killer.  Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) takes on the lead role of Norman Bates.  Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) will play Norman’s mother, Norma.  Max Thieriot (House at the End of the Street) will play Norman’s older brother who is described as a rebellious James Dean-like character.

A&E has ordered 10 episodes of the new series which will begin production.  Bates Motel joins a growing number of scripted shows planned for the cable network.
