‘Anna Karenina’ Premieres at The Toronto International Film Festival

Joe Wright’s adaption of Leo Tolstoy’s epic drama, Anna Karenina held its London premiere at Leicester Square on September 5.

The Toronto Film Festival hosted the premiere of Anna Karenina on the second day of the event- Friday, September 7.  The Focus Feature film is the third collaboration for director Joe Wright and actress Keira Knightly.  They previously worked together on Pride and Prejudice in 2005 and Atonement in 2007.   Tom Stoppard, who won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, wrote the screenplay for the classic 1877 Tolstoy novel.  The story follows Anna (Knightly), who is in an unhappy marriage with her aristocratic husband (Jude Law) and father to her young son.  She embarks on an affair with a young calvary officer (Aaron Johnson), which causes scandal and leads to her being ostracized by her social circle.  The repercussions of the affair leads to a tragic end for Anna who dared to put her happiness above the social mores and decorum of the time.
