Passion marks Brian DePalma’s first movie since 2007’s Redacted. The film is a femme fatale thriller based on the 2010 French film, Love Crime, which starred Kristen Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier.
Words like “seductive”, “enthralling” and “erotic” were used to describe DePalma’s new movie. The film stars Rachel McAdams, known for weepy romantic movies like The Notebook and The Vow, as a businesswoman locked in a deadly power struggle.
Noomi Rapace is returning to the darker roles she is known for like theThe Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movies and most recently in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. She plays McAdams’ protege.
In the film, McAdams is Christine and Rapace is her protegé, Isabelle. Both woman work together at a large conglomerate. Isabelle embarks on a deadly revenge mission after her boss steals one of her ideas.
Brian DePalma is no stranger to this type of femme thriller genre with previous films like Dressed to Kill (1980), Femme Fatale (2002) and The Black Dahlia(2006).
Passion will compete at the 69th Venice International Film Festival at the end of August and then the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
