Shia LaBeouf, The 26-year-old talented and out-spoken actor appears in the upcoming indie film, Lawless. Besides LaBeouf, the film boasts a mega-talented cast that includes Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman. LaBeouf was instrumental in getting the movie made; being the only actor who stuck with the film during the long road getting the movie green lit.
It’s easy to forget the skilled actor got his start in the Disney Channel show,Even Steven. LaBeouf took his considerable acting chops and moved on to big budget movies like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Transformers franchise, and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, LaBeouf says he’s done with the studio system that made him a star and is devoting his career to mostly indie films.
” ‘There’s no room for being a visionary in the studio system. It literally cannot exist,’ he says. ‘You give Terrence Malick a movie likeTransformers, and he’s f—-ed. There’s no way for him to exist in that world.’ “
LaBeouf will also appear in The Company You Keep, a political thriller directed by Robert Redford and The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman now in post-production.
The young actor just signed on to appear in Danish director, Lars von Trier’s controversial new film, Nymphomaniac. The film is an erotic two-part drama that will have two versions, one more sexually explicit than the other. The movie will chronicle a woman’s sexual exploits from her youth thorough age 50. The film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as the title character and Stellan Skarsgard will play her husband.
The sex scenes in the film will not be simulated and will be for real. LaBeouf was well aware of the explicit nature of the film when he signed on to the project.
” ‘It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making. For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.’ “
What attracted Shia LaBeouf to Nymphomaniac was mainly because Lars von Trier scared him and he only wants to work on projects that will challenge him in that way.
” ‘Because (von Trier’s) dangerous. He scares me. And I’m only going to work now when I’m terrified.’ “
Nymphomaniac begins production next month and Lawless opens August 29.
