Robert Pattinson came out of seclusion last night and made his first television appearance since the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal with Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. He stopped by the Daily Show to promote his upcoming David Cronenberg movie, Cosmopolis. Pattinson showed humility and self-deprecating humor while not giving anything away when Jon Stewart prodded lightly over Ben and Jerry’s ice cream about his current state.
”’My biggest problem in my life is that I’m cheap. I didn’t hire a publicist. Every awkward interview, normally actors get these things scripted… I’m going to hire a publicist,’ he said with a laugh.”
Robert Pattinson joined director David Cronenberg and Cosmopolis cast members, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Gadon, Kevin Durand, Emily Hampshire and K’Naan for the film’s New York premiere at MoMa on Monday. Cosmopolisopens August 17.
The futuristic film based on a Don DeLillo novel by the same name stars Pattinson as Eric Packer, a young and wealthy Wall Street trader who embarks on a day-long car ride in his limousine to get a hair-cut. Throughout the day he is beset by unforeseen events and mishaps. Pattinson spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the part and the film.
“’I just thought it was a great part. I wanted to work with Cronenberg and I like Don DeLillo. You don’t ever get to do a 20-minute scene in a movie, so I had no idea if it would work and what it would be like. I liked the role too,’ he told THR.”
“The actor added: ‘It felt like a little miniature play. It had a lot of movement and some interesting emotional stuff in it. It was really fun to do,’ he said.”
