Latest ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Casting News

Casting for the second installment of Suzanne Collins’ Trilogy, Catching Fire is really heating up as production for the film starts in the fall.  The coveted role of Finnick Odair, the handsome Hunger Games champion seems to be the most anticipated.  As reported from Variety,  news that Sam Claflin, the 25-year-old British actor from Snow White and the Huntsman and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is being considered for the role of Finnick Odair is running rampant today with Lionsgate yet to confirm the casting news.

It was reported, Amanda Plummer (So I Married an Ax Murderer, The Fisher King) was casted for the role of Wiress, another Hunger Games champion.  This news comes on the heels of Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) being casted as Johanna Mason and Oscar winner, Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, Doubt, Moneyball) for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.

Catching Fire (mild spoilers) picks up after Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark’s (Josh Hutcherson) win in the 74th Hunger Games.  The 75th games which is called the Quarter Quell will have previous champions compete as tributes.  Peeta and Katnis will be going back to the arena once more and this time they need to form alliances to survive.  Finnick Odiar, Johanna Mason and Wiress are three of the previous champions they must form an uneasy alliance.
