Meet the New Green Arrow

The new CW series, Arrow is based on the DC Comic character, Green Arrow.  The title character (aka Oliver Queen) played by Stephen Amell (Hung, Private Practice) is the billionaire playboy whose father was partially responsible for the demise of the fictional Sterling City.  Oliver Queen returns to Sterling City after being missing and presumed dead for five years.  He is rescued from a remote island in Pacific where he was shipwrecked.  On the island he fought for survival and honed his skills as an archer and all around bad-ass.  He takes on the Arrow persona to beat baddies, write the wrongs of his family and to restore Sterling City to what it was before daddy flushed the city down the toilet.

The 31-year-old Canadian actor and his fine abs spoke to The Hollywood Reporter (read article here) about the physical challenges of doing a TV show.  He was previously seen on the HBO series, Hung about a teacher who becomes a male prostitute to make more money.  Amell played James, the new gigolo and competition.

“I’ve never really done fight stuff on television or in front of the camera,” Amell, 31, tells The Hollywood Reporter, noting that he taught himself how to do the challenging salmon ladder depicted in the pilot. “Although sex scenes remain the most physically demanding things that I’ve ever done on TV.”

The cast includes Colin Donnell (Pan Am) as Tommy, Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Gossip Girl) as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey (Dexter) as John Diggle, Willa Holland (Gossip Girl) as Thea Queen, Susanna Thompson (NCIS) as Moira Queen, and Paul Blackthorne (Warehouse 13) as Detective Quentin Lance.

Arrow series premieres Wednesday, October 13 8/7C.

There Comic-Con 2012 panel is scheduled for Friday, July 13 at 3p.m. in Ballroom 20.
