Revisit Middle Earth in new stills from the special Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con edition of the highly anticipated Peter Jackson helm, The Hobbit which will be split into two movies. The first release, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theatres December 2012 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be in theatres December 2013. The film is an adaption of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel, The Hobbit which follows the adventures of a young Bilbo Baggins and takes place before the events of Frodo and his friends in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In the Entertainment Weekly article, Peter Jackson reveals details of the new characters that will be in the new movie.
“In the movie we want these characters to have story lines and a little more substance than they do in the book. Almost everything we’re doing is from Tolkien somewhere, whether it’s in the book or the subsequent development that wasn’t published in The Hobbit itself.”
McKellen also chimed in about the safety of your mind when watching The Hobbit on the big screen:
“A lot of people weren’t even born when we were filming Lord of the Rings and only know the movies from watching them on DVD…. They’ll see Middle-earth on the big screen in The Hobbit, and I guarantee there will be a lot of minds blown wide apart.”
The cast includes Ian McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf the Grey, Andy Serkis reprising his role as Gollum and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. Also Reprising their roles are Elijah Wood as Frodo, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and Kate Blanchett as Galadriel.
